April A. Ward

Co-Owner & Founder
Creative Content OnDemand

What inspired you to join/start your business?

My husband and I were inspired to start our company because we wanted to create a legacy for our family.

Creative Content OnDemand is co-owned by my husband James and I in Clayton, NJ. Creative Content OnDemand is a full-service multimedia marketing all in-house company offering video production, digital photography, social media management, and public relations services. Together, we have over two decades of experience in the media broadcast production industry.

We’ve created a unique and special designed package to help mid-size and small businesses grow by accessing these four pillars through a subscription-based membership. We help our clients maximize their branding leverage over their larger competitors by creating compelling online video content to generate leads, grow their business, and educate their target audience through our multimedia marketing on-demand services.

What challenges have you faced as a woman entrepreneur and how did you overcome them?

As a woman entrepreneur, one of the challenges occurred at the beginning of the pandemic when my kids began remote learning, which interrupted my home office workflow. I overcame this challenge by carving out the best time to work on the business while managing two different school schedules.

What was your most satisfying moment in your career?

The most satisfying moment in my career is when I began to work full-time as a woman entrepreneur.

How do you define success?

I would define success as loving what you do professionally. When you’re at work, it doesn’t feel like work because you’re enjoying the blessing stress-free.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?

The best piece of career advice was always to ask questions and be a good listener.

What women inspire you and why?

Many women have inspired me on my life and career journey, and the two women who continue to inspire me are my mom, Aurora Polutan, and daughter Ashley. I admire my mom leaving her comfort zone in the Philippines in 1969 to live her version of the American Dream and work as a Registered Nurse until retiring in 2006. This career move helped her set her roots in the South Jersey area with my Dad and sister. As for my daughter, she is a visionary and a great leader in her teenage community.

What advice would you give to other women entrepreneurs?

The advice I would give other women entrepreneurs is, "you can do it and continue learning everything about your industry."

Describe yourself in three words.

Friendly, Knowledgeable, and Organized

Fill in the Blank:

  • When I face a challenge, I... find a quiet place to pray and seek wisdom from Our Father, then write it down in my journal.

  • If I could go back in time, I would tell myself… stop worrying about what others think about you because worrying is a form of meditation. Stay focus on His (God's) plan for your life.

  • The one thing I couldn’t live without is… it's not a thing, but it’s people - my incredible family - husband, James, daughter, Ashley, and son, Nolan.

  • By this time next year, I will be… preparing for a Spring Break vacation with my family and genuinely enjoying some time to unplug because I believe we’ll have a great staff to handle our workload while we are away.

  • The best thing that happened to me last week was… on a day trip in Philadelphia, PA, to conducting our family photoshoot led by my husband. He found great locations, and I’m excited to do another photoshoot session in South Jersey.

  • To get my creative juices flowing, I… listen to music. The genres vary depending on the project. I have created some playlists on a music app that ranges from Gospel, R&B to Dance and Meditation Music.
