What lessons can we learn from women?

The strongest women that I know do not respond to "you can't" or "that is a bad idea". Instead, those comments fuel a "watch me" energy. She believed she could...so she did.

Who is the most influential woman you know? How does she inspire you?

My daughter. She embraced and believed everything that I told her about who she is and what she can accomplish. She is now a Wonder Woman Warrior in the medical field. She inspires me by having amazing ambitions that for most would seem out of reach. She also turns my lessons back on me and calls me out when I am not being the strong woman that I have told her that we are and aspire to be. Nicole-if you read this-thank you for making me so proud and for showing me how hard work and success is really done.

If you could meet any successful woman, who would you choose?

I cannot pick just one. When I look to sit at the feet of any woman, living or passed on, it is someone who is/was humble, driven, focused, sacrificial to their goal, flexible and has a good sense of humor. Success comes in many packages. In focusing on those attributes, I feel that I open myself up to more learning and growing opportunities rather than seeking a title or accomplishment.

What is the best part about being a women in business?

The time that we are in. Being a 70s baby, I have been able to see the evolution of women and their place in the business world. I feel that women have shouldered their way in and have gained their rightful acknowledgement and respect in the business world. We also no longer have to wear the shoulder pads and heels to feel that we are "measuring up" to our male counterparts;)

What barriers have you faced and how did you overcome them?

Any barriers that I have faced in business have been self imposed. Whether it be in boardroom or my home, people treat you how you allow them to. I do not always get it right, but I have learned to not wait for someone to speak up for me or give me what I want/need.

What advice do you have for young women who want to be in a leadership position?

People will want to follow someone who has confidence and enthusiasm. Know your stuff and often share your passion of your chosen craft. In my experience (hard learned at times), the success of your day depends on your evening before. Keeping a light personal schedule (learn to say NO!), eating well, drinking less alcohol, having your next day to do/materials planned out as well as your outfit and getting to bed by 10pm keeps you feeling and looking good which will boost your confidence and enthusiasm for the next day. Oh, and if you are debating on pushing your hair one more day..put down the dry shampoo and WASH IT!. Waking up to fresh hair will make a big difference on how you walk into your day. Simple but true.
