Terry Glebocki

Chief Executive Officer
Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey

What inspired you to join/start your business?

The opportunity to join Ocean presented itself to me 2 years ago when I accepted a job as the resort’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO). I had worked for the former owner (Revel) from 2007-2014 and always believed in the potential of this property. After about a year in the CFO role I happily transitioned into the position of CEO, which is the title I currently hold.

I’m so proud of the recent success we’ve had at Ocean. This building has gone through ups and downs since it was initially built in 2012, but we turned a corner in the summer of 2019 and despite the pandemic in 2020, our results have soared. Our owners have allowed us to continue to invest in our product, our guests and our team members. The future is very bright for Ocean!

What challenges have you faced as a woman entrepreneur and how did you overcome them?

Early in my career the biggest challenge was my work/life balance. As I learned how to successfully navigate these hurdles, I also had to deal with the fact that more often than not I was the only woman at the leadership table. Thankfully that is becoming less and less common

What was your most satisfying moment in your career?

I’m very fortunate, as there have been many rewarding moments in my career. Most recently, reopening Ocean safely after the shutdown due to the global pandemic, and bringing back the majority of our workforce.

How do you define success?

As my career has evolved, I’ve come to appreciate the elevated level of success that is achieved when focus is equally placed on our commitment to our team members and our community.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?

I’ve received many notable bits of advice over the years. The challenge is not only receiving it but also following it. “Just do your job” is something I heard early in my career and it is so basic, yet true. There are many things that can easily distract you, but doing your job effectively and consistently proves to everyone you are reliable. Other favorites of mine are: “Treat the company’s money as if it were your own” and “Channel your inner entrepreneur.”

What women inspire you and why?

There are many inspiring stories out there, both male and female. I strive to learn and be inspired by everyone I meet or read about.

What advice would you give to other women entrepreneurs?

Trust yourself and don’t be afraid of failure. We often learn more from our failures than we do from our successes. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for what you want or need. We often assume people know what we need but many times that is not the case. If you want something, ask for it. The worst that can happen is they say no.

Describe yourself in three words.

Dedicated. Caring. Driven.

Fill in the Blank:

  • When I face a challenge, I... get to work. You can’t finish anything if you don’t start.

  • If I could go back in time, I would tell myself… trust yourself and take more chances

  • The one thing I couldn’t live without is… my family of course, but chocolate is a strong runner up!

  • By this time next year, I will be…a grandmother. Happily, my daughter (Nicole) and son-in-law (Jason) are expecting my our first grandchild…and it’s a girl!

  • The best thing that happened to me last week was… my younger daughter (Kate) opened her own business, Ivy Chiropractic Studio, near Charleston SC. She recently graduated chiropractic college and within 2 months she has opened her own practice. My husband (Dave) and I are so proud.

  • To get my creative juices flowing, I… Obsess. I’m more analytical than creative by nature, so I have to work hard at it. When I’m looking for a creative solution or idea, I dwell on it and think about it night and day until I come up with an idea that works for me.
