Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey statement on Governor Christie’s State of the State Address

The following is a statement from Debra P. DiLorenzo, president & CEO, Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey.

“Today’s State of the State Address truly highlighted what a steadfast proponent Governor Christie has been to the South Jersey business community. From his commitment to the City of Camden, which has seen an incredible economic renaissance due to his pro-growth policies, to understanding the critical importance of Atlantic City’s prosperity and everything in between, Governor Christie has been an unwavering friend to South Jersey.

The Governor’s business friendly policies speak for themselves: the creation of the New Jersey Partnership for Action whose sole purpose was to make New Jersey a home for growth;  multiple corporate tax cuts that impacted large and small businesses over several years; the creation of retention programs, such as Grow New Jersey and the Economic Redevelopment & Growth (ERG) Program, that provided the state unprecedented economic opportunities; and the bipartisan Red Tape Review Commission, which eliminated thousands of burdensome regulations that hampered New Jersey’s ability to do business - not to mention the numerous vetoes on anti-business legislation such as minimum wage increases and the expansion of New Jersey’s paid family leave law.

Governor Christie also took on New Jersey’s property tax crisis in an unprecedented way by passing a 2 percent property tax cap, which the CCSNJ was proud to support. Prior to the cap, property taxes increased on residents and businesses an average of 7 percent a year; every year for ten years.  As a result of the cap, on average property taxes have increased a mere 1.98 percent per year.  That saved money is money that can go directly back to the business owner to reinvest in their business and their employees, continuing to make New Jersey a better place to do business.

Under Governor Christie’s leadership, unemployment is significantly lower, job opportunities have grown and our state is far better positioned than it was eight years ago. We thank Governor Christie for his incredible years of service and for his staunch commitment to seeing the business community in New Jersey grow and prosper.”
