JULY 11, 2018

The Honorable Philip D. Murphy

Governor, State of New Jersey

PO Box 001

Trenton, NJ 08625

Dear Governor Murphy:

I am writing to respectfully request you to sign two pieces of legislation into law, both of which would have an overwhelmingly positive impact on the Southern New Jersey economy.

A-3637 (Mazzeo/Armato) / S-2307 (Sweeney/Van Drew)
would create a Garden State Growth Zone (GSGZ) at the Atlantic City International Airport and surrounding areas.  This designation will allow for enhanced incentives to qualified businesses that choose to locate within one mile of the airport or the nearby technical center.

This legislation is one of the key components to diversifying the Atlantic County economy.  Expanding upon Atlantic County’s gaming, tourism and hospitality industry sectors will set the table for the introduction of other business sectors within the county, to the benefit of the entire region.  The creation of an aviation district will encourage businesses to locate in the Zone, bringing businesses, jobs and spurring diverse economic growth.  Additionally, it will strengthen the Atlantic City International Airport’s ability to compete  with other airports in the region, while providing the opportunity and impetus to establish a large scale aviation industry in Southern New Jersey.

Similarly, A-3190 (Land/ Andrzejczak) / S-250 (Van Drew) would allow a business located within a “small aviation district” in a county of the sixth class to be included in the Grow New Jersey Assistance Program as a GSGZ. The Cape May Airport is the only airport that meets this definition as outlined in the legislation.

The Cape May Airport is situated in a prime location that attracts thousands of tourism visitors each year and includes the Naval Air Station Museum. In 2017, Cape May County obtained a Certification of Authorization to operate drones, or unmanned aviation systems (UAS), around the Cape May Airport.  Passage of this bill will pave the way for additional economic growth in this region.

With the above in mind, I respectfully urge you to sign both of these bills that will capitalize on two airports in the Jersey shore area to the benefit of the economy of our region.  Thank you in advance for your kind consideration of our support for these two bill.

Sincerely,
