Parker McCay Supports Summer Meals Program for Food Bank of South Jersey
New Jersey law
firm Parker McCay supported the Food Bank of South Jersey (“Food Bank”) with a corporate sponsorship, an employee food drive, and a fundraiser to benefit the Summer Meals program.
The Food Bank estimates that approximately 57,000 children in our area are dealing with food insecurity. When classes end for the summer months, it can be especially hard for parents in disadvantaged communities to afford the extra meals that were provided during the school day. To assist families in providing nutritious, high-quality food, the Food Bank’s Summer Meals program provides breakfast, lunch, and snacks for children in need from June through August.
Appreciating the urgency and seriousness of child hunger in the region, the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility team coordinated a two-week long food drive and a special denim day fundraiser to benefit the Summer Meals program. (Denim days are held once a month at the firm. The “business” dress code is temporarily lifted and employees are permitted to wear jeans to the office with a minimum donation of five dollars. All monies raised during denim days support employee-nominated non-profits.) The food drive was a huge success, yielding multiple bins filled with necessities, and the denim day collected $500 cash in additional funds.
“There are too many heartbreaking stories of parents constantly worrying about providing enough food for their families”, commented George Morris, a shareholder at firm. “The employees wanted to complement the firm’s corporate sponsorship with support of their own. This major outpouring of generosity and commitment to our neighbors is just another reason why we are so proud of our employees and their shared efforts to support our local communities.”
The Food Bank’s Summer Meals program continues through August 30th
